CUT OUT TELEPHONE COLD CALLING
Perhaps the most frustrating phone calls of all are from cold callers trying to sell you a conservatory, double-glazing or life insurance.
Many large companies use an automated telephone calling system called ACE (Automated Calling Equipment). The system can call 200 numbers at a time, but there may be only 100 operators available to answer the calls. This is termed as 'blanket calling' which sets out to elicit a high response rate.
A consequence of this is that your phone may ring and there will be nobody at the other end! For the elderly and vulnerable this can be very distressing.
However, residents can choose not to be contacted by registering with the Telephone Preference System (TPS). The TPS helps you to make sure your telephone number is no longer available to organisations, including charities and voluntary groups, who may telephone you with offers and information you do not wish to receive.
