UPMINSTER LU DEPOT WORKS

Works are currently being undertaken at the Upminster London Underground Depot to accommodate additional trains from 2013.

London Underground have released the following statement:

Transport for London is transforming the Tube by investing in the network London-wide. Part of this investment includes providing new trains for the District line, which will start entering service from late 2013 onwards. To prepare for the arrival of these new trains we need to carry out some work at Upminster depot.

As the new train fleet will be larger, we will need more sidings at Upminster and other depots to store the trains when they are not in service. For this reason we will be building new sidings adjacent to the existing sidings located on the north of the maintenance sheds.

The first stage of this work will take place in early/mid February, when we will remove undergrowth from strips of land in order to facilitate an ecological survey of the area. The work will take about five working days, will be carried out in the daytime and no work will be carried out at weekends. We do not expect this work to cause any disturbance.

Following the strip clearance we will conduct an ecological survey and will eventually clear most of the vegetation on this part of the depot. We will write again soon with more information about the later stages of this work.

Should you have any questions about our investment programme in general or the work at Upminster Depot in particular, please contact the London Underground Customer Service Centre, 55 Broadway, London SW1H 0BD (Tel. 0845 330 9880), or give us feedback via the online form at www.tfl.gov.uk\tubefeedback.

Cranham councillors are monitoring the situation closely and have asked for regular updates.
