The sky was blue and the ground a long way off as five 'skydivers' plummeted 12,000ft to earth in order to raise money for local charity First Step.
Daniel Brown, Sian Wilson, Tony Saint and Martin Burfield and Cllr Clarence Barrett (pictured) made up the intrepid quintet which travelled to Chatteris Airfield (nr Cambridge) on Saturday to face up to a 'once in a lifetime' experience.
Cllr Clarence Barrett, Leader of the Opposition (Residents' Association), said: "Having abseiled 120ft down the YMCA building in 2009, I wanted to crank it up a little this year and jump out of a plane two miles high. The experience was truly exhilarating and worth all the nervous anticipation. However, a once in a lifetime experience it was and that's how it will stay!
"I was really pleased for the opportunity to raise much needed funds for such a deserving charity as First Step and hope to generate around £800. My next target is the London Marathon, but not until 2012 as I will need that long to get fit!"
First Step is a charity providing support and a place to learn for pre-school children with special needs and their families in The London Borough of Havering. To find out more visit www.firststep.org.uk.
