SUNNINGS LANE CLOSURE

Following the Upminster, Cranham & Emerson Park Area Committee last week (20.10.05), Cllr Linda Hawthorn (Upminster, RA) reports on the proposed closure of Sunnings Lane, just north of its junction with Dennises Lane.

Cllr Hawthorn said: “It was a few years ago now that residents of Sunnings Lane, Upminster, approached me asking if their road could be blocked off at the top, just past Sunnens Farm, primarily to stop speeding traffic.

“I took this up and found that residents were 100% behind the scheme. The subject of fly tipping was also raised, which was prevalent in the area and this scheme may help combat that.

“I would say that there is no need for this road to be opened, the traffic on Dennises Lane can quite easily travel down Stubbers Lane to Ockendon Road, where there are no houses, and the residents of Sunnings Lane who wish to turn right out of their houses can use either route or Harwood Lane instead.

“Funding was found, but then removed due to higher priorities, but is now back on track. Hopefully, Sunnings Lane will soon return to a country lane and perhaps the top of the road could be transformed into a country walk – we will have to wait and see”.
